Q: I've never made soap before. What kind of skill set do I need here?
A: No skills required.
Q: What should I bring?
A: Creative energy.
Q: What should I wear?
A: Old clothes.
Q: What if I cannot attend and I have already reserved my space?
A: We understand things happen, so you are more than welcome to reschedule, however, you will have to select another date, and make the reservation online. We will not reschedule over the phone.
Q: Can I bring my children?
A: Children under 12 are not permitted to blend in this lab. We use sodium hydroxide to make soap, as does everyone who makes soap from scratch. The sodium hydroxide, if it touches your skin, tingles (bad tingle, not good tingle), so we err on the side of caution and suggest that no children under 12 blend in the Batch From Scratch lab.
Q: Can I bring a group?
A: Yes. Group classes can be arranged.
Q: Can I request a particular essence?
A: We have a selection of basic essential oils that are included in the Batch From Scratch menu. We also have a selection of premium essences that you can purchase.
Q: How do I sign up, how do I pay?
A: Sign up using the forms each page. Pay using Paypal or credit card.
Q: Do you issue refunds?
A: Unfortunately, there are no refunds on DIY body care products.
Q: What do I do once I leave with my "raw" batch of soap?
A: Wrap your soap mold in an old shirt, towel, or blanket for at least three days. Once it is fully dry, tear the mold away from the soap block, cut it into slices and allow it to dry for at least four weeks. You can cut your soap block with a common kitchen knife.
Q: Is your soap made with lye?
A: All soap, including ours, is made with some form of sodium hydroxide. Though sodium hydroxide, chemically is not exactly "lye" it is commonly referred to as such. So to answer the question, yes, we do use "lye."
